Is Printful Plus / Pro worth it? (2026 break-even analysis)
Printful sells two tiers of paid subscriptions on top of the free plan: Plus at $9/month (saves on apparel and accessories) and Pro at $29/month (saves more, plus mockup tools and design library). The vendor pitches both aggressively. The honest answer: it depends entirely on your monthly volume.
The numbers, on a $24 t-shirt
| Plan | Monthly fee | Discount on Bella+Canvas 3001 | Per-item savings | Break-even orders/month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | — | $0 | — |
| Plus | $9 | ~7% | $0.91 | ~10 orders |
| Pro | $29 | ~17% | $2.20 | ~14 orders |
Numbers above use Printful's published 2026 discount tiers applied to the $12.95 base cost of a Bella+Canvas 3001. They shift up or down by ±20% depending on which products you sell.
The recommendation
- Under 10 orders/month → stay free. The subscription costs more than it saves.
- 10-30 orders/month → Plus ($9). Clean win; saves ~$15-25/month after the subscription cost.
- 30+ orders/month or you use Printful's mockups heavily → Pro ($29). The base-cost savings alone justify it; the design library is a bonus.
The trap: signing up before you have the volume
Printful asks new accounts to opt into Plus during onboarding. The first month is often free, then $9 silently auto-bills. If you do 5 orders that month, you've effectively paid $1.80 extra per order — that's a 7% margin hit on a $24 listing. Wait until you're consistently above 10 orders/month after the discount math, then upgrade.
What Printful won't tell you
The discount applies to the base cost only, not shipping. On products where shipping is a big share of total vendor cost (mugs, wall art, posters), Plus / Pro savings are smaller in dollar terms than the table suggests. Re-run the math for your top 5 SKUs before deciding.
How to figure out your number
Go to PODProfit, set your top-selling product + Etsy + your typical price, and read the net profit. Multiply by your monthly order count. Then subtract $9 (Plus) or $29 (Pro). Compare to your current monthly net at the free tier. Whichever number is bigger wins.
The same analysis applies to Printify Premium ($29/month for 20% off most products). Same break-even logic, just a different vendor.
